If you or your loved one suffers a very serious injury, sometimes referred to as a ‘catastrophic injury’, life is likely to change forever. Many law firms do personal injury work, but only a few have the expertise to deliver the service and results needed by those who have suffered serious spinal or brain injuries, severe burns, amputations or a fatal accident. At SC Law we aim to bring back the dignity that has been taken out of our clients lives following their serious injury to try and give them a future worth looking forward to.

We provide a personalised service that is tailor-made to each individual client's case. At SC Law, our lawyers recognise that in serious injury claims, every injury is different and unique and affects the accident victim differently. No two injuries are ever the same.

24-hour care may be needed. Specialist equipment or nursing may be required and your home may need to be adapted. There may be years of rehabilitation and you may need to re-train at work. For some people, their serious injury will mean the end of their working lives.

You will need financial support to rebuild your life. At SC Law our dedicated Serious Injuries team has recovered millions of pounds in damages for our clients. Our personal injury lawyers help secure the maximum compensation so it is enough to provide for a lifetime’s needs. We regularly negotiate awards that exceed our clients’ expectations. The personal injury solicitors at SC Law have a reputation for taking on and winning even the most difficult cases.

Serious Injuries Unit and what we do

Making a compensation claim for a very serious injury is usually complex and very different to handling a normal claim. Many other factors need to be taken into account and a highly specialised lawyer would need to deal with your claim. This is where your lawyer’s experience really counts. Serious injuries have a great impact on individuals because they are so traumatic and often have lifelong implications.

Our serious injuries team will:

  • investigate the circumstances of your accident as quickly as possible
  • provide you and your family with help and support to guide you through the practical problems that you are faced with immediately after your serious injury, including rehabilitation
  • work closely with you and your family and carry out home or hospital visits
  • obtain interim payments to help with financial needs where appropriate

As well as the loss of your physical mobility and other health issues, our personal injury lawyers will assess your financial losses, including:

  • the cost of your past and future care
  • your loss of past and future earnings, including any pension
  • the cost of providing you with special equipment and rehabilitation
  • your welfare benefit entitlement
  • the cost of your future accommodation needs or adapting your home
  • provide details of local support groups and services offered by your local authority
  • help you get proper financial advice so you can protect your compensation award in the future

If you would like to discuss what kind of service we can offer you or someone you know, please phone our serious injuries team us on free phone 0800 121 8646 or 020 8966 1299 or complete our online claim form.

What you need to know about making a claim

Legal action must be commenced within three years of the accident date. Different rules apply to children and to people who are incapable of handling their own affairs.

You should visit a specialist catastrophic injury solicitor as soon as possible, as a vast amount of work needs to be done before bringing a compensation claim.

We will need to obtain full details of the accident, how it occurred, any supporting witness evidence and assess what specialist medical reports may be required and what rehabilitative support may be available.

Most importantly, we first have to prove the third party who caused your injuries was negligent.

If you already have an ongoing claim and are not happy with your current solicitors and want to switch to expert lawyers, please contact us. Changing solicitors is a straightforward process.

What you can claim

You will have more than just a team of lawyers fighting your case. We instruct the best specialist medical and other experts and barristers to assess your injuries and value of your claim. Compensation is calculated for your:

  • Pain, suffering and loss of amenities
  • Past and any future financial losses and expenses
  • Interim payments can be applied for to help with financial difficulties

Compensation will consist of damages for the injuries sustained. In addition, we will claim the financial losses incurred, which may include past and future loss of earnings, the cost of care provided by family members, professional nursing, rehabilitation, the cost of house adaptations, disability aids and equipment and the cost of a case manager, plus other relevant losses.

Usually the costs in severe injury cases are necessary to restore a reasonable quality of life and can be a significant amount.
